Forever Stamps

We have until May to purchase "forever" stamps--meaning that if the price of a stamp goes up, up, up, these stamps will be good until you use them up. We mail fewer and fewer items per month and have been deciding how many we ought to buy.

Thursday, I mailed a book to Jason in St. Louis. I had the clerk quote me a price on first class postage. For $23.60, it could have arrived on Jason's doorstep overnight.

Instead, I mailed it media mail, $3.28, plus a certified mail sticker to make sure this apartment dweller actually receives it. No telling when it will arrive...which gives my tightwad sensibility a great deal of pleasure. Keep the first edition, Jason.

I love sending and receiving mail. It makes me feel important. That said, $23 is a lot of money (you could drive one way to STL and just give it to me for that amount).

Anyway, thank you for sending me this book. I'll read it and send it back post-haste!

By the way, thank you for mentioning me in yet another post. I LOVE it.

Oh, and I've never heard of these "forever" stamps...but I'm going to buy a SHIT load.

I am glad you wrote about the forever stamps. I had not heard of them, and I am always one denomination behind in stamps, it seems.

Jason--no need to return the book, it's yours. If you feel guilty about that--pass it on.

Larry--we can't decide whether we'll buy any at all. Typically, I purchase stamps in rolls of 100 and I have bunches of small denomination stamps left over from former postal increases.

Got the book today, again--thank you very much Terri.

And I received your snail mail letter--blushing about your comments.

I'm glad you got that. I want you to know that I meant what I wrote--I liked your book, and wish you'd write another.

You acted so scared when I said I was going to read it, too...
